Watching Jack's videos, two things I noticed:

  • He mentioned during Sunday's race that it was a "Days of Thunder" smokescreen when Jared blew the engine just after passing Jack. Granted I was looking for it, but WOW!  ???
  • In Saturday's race Mark was covered by a waving yellow plus flashing yellow lights after he spun exiting the Boot. Granted that's a blind spot but someone STILL hit him? Again, WOW!

Rear facing view Sunday PM race;
He had a good race with Jared till about 7:30 when his shifter breaks off leaving him with 4th gear only.
Jared gets by and promptly blows his engine on the back straight.  :o

Yes I'll be out. I'm retiring Thurs, or is it rearranging my priorities not sure but anyway I will have time to work on the car now and I do have some money set aside just for the race car. It's been three years since I blew the motor and I'm getting jealous of you guy's racing.

Good news, Congrats on retirement!!

Great weekend.

Friday practice went well until my clutch started slipping badly in the 3rd (of 3) session.
I thought about packing up, but the Flying Wrenches crew were having none of it.
Mark Mercurio and Don Roberts said it was a "2 beer job"  ;D
Dick Rukh had a replacement 5.5 identical to my current assembly, a deal was struck, and 2 beers later, it was done.

Saturday AM qualifying went well for all. The race was a different story.
Started out with myself third, Mark second and Frank on the pole. We ran that way for the first 4-5 laps, nose to tail.
Around lap 6, I was able to get by Mark and we continued closely bunched.
Right around lap 8, I was losing fuel pressure (AKA out of fuel). I pointed Mark by in turn 9, he lost the back end and tagged the wall, coming to rest, stalled, facing traffic, in a blind corner. Several cars got by but, Dick, not so much, heavy hit, lots of damage to both cars.

Sunday AM qualifier was all good. Sunday PM race started with Frank on the pole, me in second and Ricky Sanders in third.
At the green, in turn 1, Ricky slid under me for second. We ran 1-2-3 REALLY close for a couple laps. Ricky had an electrical issue and dropped out on the back stretch. I spent the next dozen laps trying to get around Frank. With 2 laps remaining, Frank's ailing 310 went really sour, handing over the point.

Again, big thanks to Mark and Don for making the weekend possible.  8)
